FAQs

Watch Communications Frequently Asked Questions

1.  What is Fixed Wireless?

Fixed wireless internet delivers high-speed internet to your home via radio signals from a nearby tower, eliminating the need for traditional phone lines, unsightly dish equipment or cables. It’s a great option for rural areas and  where other services might not be available.

2. How is Fixed Wireless Internet Installed?

Professional installation requires a certified technician coming to your home to set up the service and mount a small wireless antenna- generally the size of a small pizza box- to the exterior of your home.

· Step 1: A certified technician will assess your home to pinpoint the best location for the wireless antenna to be positioned in order to provide the strongest connection possible.

· Step 2: The wireless antenna is then mounted on your roof or exterior wall and calibrated for optimal performance.

· Step 3: Finally, the technician will connect the wireless antenna to your in-home modem for WIFI routing. Once this is complete, you can enjoy a high-speed fixed wireless connection to the internet.

10. How is fixed wireless internet different from fiber and satellite internet?

· Fixed Wireless Internet delivers high-speed, “fiber like” internet via radio signals from a nearby tower to a receiver on your home. Works best in rural or suburban areas with line-of-sight and near line-of-sight access to the tower.

· Satellite Internet uses satellites in orbit to beam internet to a dish at your location. Available almost anywhere but often slower and with higher latency and in some cases, requires a larger investment.

· Fiber Internet uses fiber-optic cables to transmit data as light signals offering higher speeds and lower latency but limited to areas with fiber infrastructure
